Daily Tip: Great Sunscreen Debate

NEW YOU Anti-Aging Tip: For the most effective sun protection, choose mineral based products that contain zinc and titanium.

There is no such thing as “sun block” because long pants, shirts and wide rimmed hats are your body’s only full proof protection. Understandably you may still want to soak up some rays. So when you need to expose your skin, it is important to choose the right brand that protects and does not break down in heat. To this end, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) conducted a study and found that participants who used sunscreens containing zinc and titanium were exposed to 20% less UVA radiation and hazardous ingredients than participants who used non-mineral sunscreens. EWG also analyzed 16 peer-reviewed studies and found compelling evidence that zinc and titanium do not penetrate the skin. Regardless of your choice, avoid leaving your bottle open, directly exposed to the sun, or in conditions greater than room temperature, as this may cause a loss in potency. Remember, not all sun screens are created equal, so read the labels and ingredients and choose the best option for your skin.
