How To: DIY Oily Skin Solution

Egg whites and lemon juice create a powerful DIY skin mask.

Oily, acne prone skin is a reality I’ve had to deal with my entire life. I’ve tested hundreds of drug store cleansers, creams and masks as well as the high-end, expensive varieties—all with the goal of finding the right combination of ingredients that will balance my skin’s sebum production, rid me of acne, and prevent it from returning.

I’ve had some success with products but I have also found a simple remedy that is quick, easy and effective. By reaching for ingredients that are right in your kitchen, you can achieve the same results and save yourself some of that hard earned cash.

DIY Oily Skin Mask

Ingredients:

Egg White from 1 Egg

Juice from 1 Lemon

How To:

Wisk together the egg white and lemon juice until you get a foamy consistency. Apply the mixture to clean, dry skin avoiding your eyes and mouth. Let the mixture dry on your skin. You should feel a slight tightening sensation. After the mask dries, remove it with warm water. Finish with an oil-free moisturizer. Repeat twice a week.

Why it works:

The egg whites act like a sponge and soak up all the excess sebum in your skin. They will also shrink the size of your pores to help reduce the future production of sebum. The high vitamin C content in the lemon juice brightens and exfoliates the skin for a healthier, more even complexion. The lemon juice will also help reduce the appearance of acne, age and sunspots on the skin.

Pros: Ingredients you may already have in your kitchen. Quick. Easy.

Cons: Slimy consistency.
