Don’t You (Forget About the ‘80s): Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring 2017

By Erica Braun

Break out the legwarmers, sequins, shoulder pads, and scrunchies – the ‘80s are making a comeback! A decade filled with extreme choices in music, makeup, and fashion; but most of all, a time to push the boundaries, take risks, and have fun!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring ‘17 collection is doing just that.

As a designer who showed his first fashion collection in the ‘80s (1986 to be exact), the inspiration behind the line stems from the spirit of “the girl” and her makeup ritual. Jacobs spoke to Vogue on his latest beauty campaign stating, “It’s simple nostalgia from MTV days – that sort of exuberance.”

The collection brings a sense of on-trend glamour reminiscent of the decade as it highlights a range of vivid new shades of Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayons and O!mega Lash Volumizing Mascara complemented by the new Le Marc Liquid Lip Crème – a liquid rebirth of his iconic crème lipstick, and his coveted Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick.

The two “wow” factor products in this collection are all about the eyes, in non-other than NEON colors for the perfect combination of vibrant mascara and eyeliner together for a totally 80’s eye done in a cool way.

Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayons ($25) come in 12 new hues that are glitter-free, waterproof and offer extreme wear color that can be used as a smudged smoky appearance or for an instantaneous graphic look that lasts all day. Best of all, they’re designed with a sharpener hidden in the base of the liner to create a more precise point.

Pop Icon Lady Gaga recently wore some of the new beauty collection during the 2017 Super Bowl – Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon “Pink of Me.”

Pair this with O!mega Lash Volumizing Mascara ($26), available in five smudge-proof standout shades like Peacock and Violet Incredible, for twice the impact. The mascara’s double brush design (yes 2 brushes in one) delivers enhanced lash separation and mega-volume and curl in just a few strokes.

Now go get your ‘80s on!

The complete Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring 2017 collection is available both in-store and online at Sephora.com.
