JOHN LEGEND ON WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO SPEAK OUT IN THIS POLITICAL CLIMATE

While his wife, Chrissy Teigen, marched in Washington DC, John Legend took the opportunity to participate in the women’s march at Sundance while promoting his second season of Underground. “Both of us stand with women and also the other groups that may be under threat in this new regime,” says the American singer, songwriter, musician and actor. “This president has promised to visit a lot of pain on a lot of people, on Muslims, on immigrants and on promises to punish women. We have to be concerned about that and we have to speak out and say no, not on our watch. He is still accountable to people and people made their voices heard today and hopefully we can go out and do more.” NEW YOU caught up with Legend at a private party to promote his show at Sundance Festival. “We are so proud of Underground show – it is the most successful show on cable right now and we are excited for our fans to see the second season.” The Oscar-winning musician and Underground executive producer signed on for a key role in the upcoming second season of the WGN America drama. “Aisha Hinds is heavily featured in the second season,” he says. “She is an integral part of second season.” When it comes to health, Legend admits he has a problem with his cholesterol. “I have to watch my cholesterol – don’t eat too much bacon and keep my egg yolks to a minimum. Everybody has heredity issues so you have to try and eat right and exercise.” As for energy to keep up with his very busy schedule, Legend says he attributes his added energy to coffee. “I started to drink coffee now that I am a dad but I try to avoid it as much as I can and get as much rest as I can,” he adds as a final thought.
