Think that energy drink is a harmless little vice? A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that a single energy drink can cause short-term changes that can increase the risk of heart disease. Subjects who drank energy drinks on two separate occasions had their blood pressure and norepinephrine values (the hormone that raises blood pressure) measured. On average, blood pressure values increased by 6.6 points and norepinephrine levels increased by 40 percent after consuming just one energy drink. These effects may predispose people to increased cardiovascular risks (heart attack, high blood pressure, etc.). So think before you drink, especially if you have any heart condition or heart disease runs in your family.
