New You Health Tip: To promote weight loss, incorporate Greek or traditional yogurt into your diet.

With brands like Fage and Chobani expanding their real estate in the dairy isle, you may wonder exactly how it differs from traditional yogurt brands. Here’s the simple answer: According to CalorieCount.com the typical yogurt brand contains three times the amount of carbohydrates and sugars per serving compared to Greek. Fage also has more protein, just under two times the amount of Yoplait. This is beneficial for those looking to manage their weight. Protein in the yogurt fills you up and serves as a hunger deterrent. Along with increased benefits comes increased cost; Greek yogurt is more expensive because the process involves straining the yogurt three times instead of two to provide a much thicker consistency than traditional yogurt. So what to choose? While Greek is undoubtedly healthier, the nutritional benefits of yogurt in general are tremendous and people who incorporate a daily serving of yogurt into their diet tend to lose nearly one pound every four years.
