10 Skin Commandments That Are Hard To Obey

After binge watching YouTube beauty videos, we would think our morning and night routines are all figured out. When we finally get the hang of cleansing, moisturizing, and toning every day, there’s always an influencer or a beauty magazine source telling us some new hoopla that throws everything off. Well, we’re here to tell you that some of your lifestyle choices are damaging your skin. These skin commandments will be hard to obey, but if followed, people will probably start accusing you of being a vampire, much like Pharrell and Jennifer Lopez.

THOU SHALL NOT GET CHOCOLATE WASTED.

More skin oils are produced and follicles clog up when too much sugar is consumed. The body releases more insulin which then breaks down protein and collagen and increases the chances of wrinkles. Try to avoid processed foods, starches, and sugary drinks. Kiss your potatoes, corn, and favorite sugary cereals good-bye.

THOU SHALL NOT GET WASTED…PERIOD!

Apparently partying might not be the best thing for your skin either. We know that alcohol is dehydrating, but it actually makes your skin very dry as well. Smoking is also damaging but guess what? Even if you don’t smoke, hanging around your friends that do isn’t a good idea either (well, while they’re doing it). Second-hand smoke is toxic and irritating to the skin and causes wrinkles.

THOU SHALL LET ZITS LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

We know it’s tempting to pop our whiteheads when they appear on random parts of our face. However, it’s actually better if you just let them be. By attempting to pop them, you introduce new bacteria to the skin. Go to your local drugstore and purchase a gentle spot treatment. This best time to apply the cream is before bed after you have cleansed the area.

THOU SHALL NOT “DO THE PEOPLE’S EYEBROW” LIKE THE ROCK.

It’s so annoying when you find out little things can affect the skin! Would you have ever guessed that squinting or raising your eyebrows can contribute to the possibility of wrinkles? Invest in some shades to avoid squinting excessively.

THOU SHALL DISINFECT IPHONE (OR ANDROID… AND OTHERS).

Every time you call your friend to gossip or talk about the new Game of Thrones episode; you are building up oil and bacteria on your phone. Yuck! To make it worse, have you noticed where you place your phone when you’re not using it? You introduce those new germs to your skin every time, making it likely to clog up your pores.

THOU SHALL NOT EAT BURGERS AND FRIES.

This one might not be too difficult since eating cleaner is now a popular trend. Try terminating greasy, fatty foods from your diet and feed your body more antioxidants such as leafy greens and yummy fruits. Ava Shamban, author of Heal Your Skin, says “poor nutrition may make acne-prone teens more susceptible to breakouts.”

THOU SHALL NOT RIP SKIN OFF WITH WAX.

It’s summertime, and we’re making many appointments at our favorite wax centers. But, did you know that an outer layer of skin is removed every time you wax? Your skin becomes exposed, making it susceptible to more infections.

THOU SHALL FREEZE BOOTY OFF IN SHOWER.

Well, we’re kidding. But, hot, steamy showers, can leave your skin very dry. The hotter and the longer the shower, the more the oils are being removed from your skin. A shower head filter can also prevent your skin from overdrying as it removes about 95% chlorine.

THOU SHALL BUY A TRILLION SUNSCREENS.

Please do not literally buy that many but invest in a couple. Most people don’t include this in their regimen, but sunscreen should be applied before going outdoors and every 20 minutes after that if you’re outside for an extended amount of time.

THOU SHALL EXFOLIATE ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK.

Exfoliating is great for removing dead cells from the surface of the skin but over exfoliating is a no-no. Raw skin is more susceptible to infections. Stick to exfoliating one or twice a week.

Sheesh. Talk about making life changes. Good luck following these skin commandments!
