A Conversation with Hoda Kotb and Andy Cohen
Posted On Jan 07, 2016
Last night at the 92Y, Today Show host Hoda Kotb sat down with Watch What Happens Live’s Andy Cohen to discuss her new book, Where we Belong: Journeys That Show Us The Way. Bravo’s Andy Cohen asked Hoda questions about her life journey, her passions, her book, her inspirations, and even who she’d shag, kill, and marry!
To start off, Andy Cohen asked Hoda a bit about her and co-host Kathie Lee Gifford’s relationship off the air. Hoda said the two are friends outside of work and often go to matinee Broadway shows and lunch. Hoda also spoke about the sudden death of Kathie’s husband, Frank Gifford, and told the audience that Kathie handled her loss with strength and grace.
Hoda then shared her journey to becoming a television news anchor. She talked about how she has enjoyed journalism since she was young and that she was never good and math and science. But like many of us, her journey to her dream job wasn’t an easy one. She told the audience she was rejected 27 times before landing her first television gig for a CBS affiliate in Greenville, Mississippi. She never gave up and encouraged the audience to do the same.
Hoda gave the audience a glimpse as to how a typical day unfolds. Every day she wakes up and writes three things she’s grateful for. Then she writes about something great that happened in the past 24 hours. After that, she exercises, then meditates or prays. Lastly, she participates in one random act of kindness.
Since it wouldn’t be an Andy Cohen sit down without some laughs and juiciness, he asked Hoda who she would shag, kill, and marry. Hoda’s options were her colleagues Willie Geist, Matt Lauer, and Al Roker. She said she couldn’t kill any of the guys but eventually said she’d shag Matt Lauer, marry Willie Geist, and kill Al Roker. Andy said he’d shag Willie, marry Matt, and kill Al. Poor Al.
To end the evening, an audience member asked Hoda what is the one thing she knows. She said it’s that she knows she still gets butterflies at age 51.
This 92Y talk was one to remember. The banter between Andy and Hoda was incredible and both are so inspiring.
Hoda’s new book, Where we Belong: Journeys That Show Us The Way, is about how people have found their life purposes in unexpected ways. The book is available now. Click here to purchase your copy.
