Aaron Paul, Ian Harding, Octavia Spencer Attend City Year Spring Break Event

City Year held their 6th annual Spring Break: Destination Education event in Los Angeles on May 7th. Proceeds from this star-studded event support City Year’s mission to make sure that that every child receives a quality education regardless of their zip code. The organization tries to improve educational services in impoverished districts by starting mentorships between its members and at-risk students to help them reach their potential.

Many celebrities attended to show their support for the organization. The stars shared their stories about how teachers, mentors, and educators have impacted their lives.

This year the event broke a record and raised $1.6 million. Octavia Spencer hosted the event, and celebrities like Aaron Paul, Nolan Gould, Ian Harding, and Miranda Cosgrove attended to show their support. There was also a special performance by Imagine Dragons.

New You chatted with some of the stars about City Year and how education helped them get to where they are today. (insert videos)

Aaron Paul spoke about one teacher that really encouraged him to chase after his dreams.

Octavia Spencer expressed how important education is to her. She says it’s the key out of poverty.

Ian Harding credits his Aunt, who was a teacher at his high school, for his career in acting.
