Behind the Scenes at The Parker Foundation Celebration

Last night, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Sean Parker, announced his plan to donate $250 million to six cancer centers nationwide to support an initiative called The Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Under the new foundation, researchers in the cancer field will now share their research findings, coordinate clinical trials, establish common tissue banks, and more.

 

The six institutions that will coordinate their efforts on immunotherapies are Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford Medicine, UCLA, UC San Francisco, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

 

Parker’s enormous donation is the largest ever for cancer immunotherapy and one of the largest ever for cancer research.

 

The new initiative launched Wednesday and many celebrities were in attendance to celebrate.

 

Sean Parker said, “It was a field that wasn’t receiving enough attention or funding. And you were having these incredible results in patients, and yet the cancer establishment wasn’t funding.”

 

 

Power couple Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks spoke highly of Sean Parker and his work.

 

 

Actor Sean Penn says “Sean Parker is the thing we need.”

 

 

Katie Couric is really excited because it’s something that Stand Up to Cancer has been doing since 2008.
