Bill Gates is Still the Richest Man in World

Forbes just released their 2016 list of billionaires and Bill Gates is still number one. Gates topped the list for the 17th time in 22 years. The Microsoft head is $4.2 billion poorer than 2015, but his net worth is a whopping $75 billion.

 

Other people on the list are Amazon’s Jeff Bezos who’s 5th, Mark Zuckerberg who’s 6th, Oracle’s Larry Ellison is 7th, Michael Bloomberg at 8th, and tied for 9th are David and Charles Koch. The top ten billionaires bring in a net worth of a monstrous $505.4 billion.

 

31-year-old Zuckerberg added $11.2 billion to his fortune this year. The Facebook founder moved up from number 16 to number six this year.

 

There are only two women on the top 20 list. Liliane Bettencourt, principal shareholder of L’Oréal, is the richest woman in the world, with a net worth of $36.1 billion. Alice Walton, the daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam and Helen Walton, is the second richest woman in the world with a net worth of $32.3 billion.

 

There are only 190 women on the billionaire list out of 1,810.The world’s youngest billionaire is 19-year-old professional dressage competitor, Alexandra Andresen from Norway. She inherited her $1.2 billion from her father Johan F. Andresen, who made his money in the tobacco industry.

 

The U.S. has 540 billionaires, more than any other country in the world. China has 251 (Hong Kong has another 69), Germany has 120, Russia has 77, and Brazil has 23.
