Charlize Theron: Its Hard for ‘Gorgeous, Pretty Actresses Like Me’

For some, achieving beauty is pain, but for Charlize Theron, apparently being beautiful can be a pain. In an interview with British GQ, the stunning actress discussed the difficulty she has with being gorgeous in Hollywood. She revealed that oftentimes she has been turned down for roles due to her good looks. The South African star said, “When meaty roles come through, I’ve been in the room and pretty people get turned away first.” She continued explaining roles with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that’s just the way it is. This hasn’t stopped the actress before. She altered her appearance for her lead roles in Monster and Mad Max Fury Road. She gained 30 pounds and used a prosthetic nose in Monster. That model appearance may have held her back from certain roles but has also landed her many, like her campaign for Dior and her role as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman.
