Doug Flutie’s DWTS Emotional Tribute
Posted On Apr 05, 2016
Last night’s Dancing with the Stars episode was a definite tear jerker. With each new year there is a cause for celebration, but unfortunately, this was not the case for former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie. In late 2015, the all-star athlete lost both of his parents within minutes of each other. During his “Most Memorable Year” intro, before taking the stage, Flutie opened up about his parents’ deaths stating his father died in the hospital from a heart attack. Shortly after, his mother entered the room to give her husband of almost 60 years a kiss and died right then and there at his bedside. Essentially doctors stated Flutie’s mother died instantly of a broken heart.
Following his performance with partner Karina Smirnoff, a teary-eyed 53-year-old said, “I just want to make mom and dad proud.” After watching his brave performance, there is no denying he achieved just that as his parents are smiling down from above.
Kudos to Doug Flutie for persevering and having the will-power to continue honoring his parents’ legacy in the best way possible. Losing a parent is tough but losing both parents on the same day is heart wrenching to say the least. Check out Doug’s emotional waltz that scored him a 20 on yesterdays DWTS. As a caveat be sure to have a couple of tissues handy. Stay strong Doug!
