Grease: Live Shines Despite Rain

A star studded line up hit the stage last night for “Grease: Live” with overwhelming success as one of the stars, Vanessa Hudgens deals with tragedy hours before her performance.

Fox reports that despite a show that survived early rain, some tricky costume changes, a mortifying loss of audio and a cast member’s heartbreak, Grease: Live proved it could break new ground for musical television on the Fox network.

“With this hectic, ambitious and hormonal “Grease,” Fox proved it could up the ante in the new mini-industry of musicals on TV, an industry so far controlled by NBC, with its “The Sound of Music Live!” ”Peter Pan Live!” and “The Wiz Live.”

Jessie J opened the show, while Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars) seamlessly played the role of Sandy and Aaron Tveit (Les Miserables, Gossip Girl, Graceland) strutted his leading role as Danny Zuko.

Carly Rae Jepsen (musician, “Call Me Maybe) played a fun and flirty Frenchie, KeKe Palmer (Scream Queens) was sultry as the diva Marty; but real credit goes to Vanessa Hudgens, who was an electric Rizzo.

The High School Musical actress announced just a few hours before going on stage that her father had just passed from stage four cancer. She then dedicated last night’s performance in his honor.
