Lights, Camera, Action: The 31st Annual Artios Awards

The Casting Society of America (CSA) presents the 31st annual Artios Awards last night celebrating excellence in casting for television, theatre, web series and short film. New You was front and center on the red carpet chatting with Hollywood’s best.

“If a casting director takes a shine to you, it can change your life,” the uber-talented William H. Macy explains.

This, coming from a guy who has been in the industry for over four decades, whose appeared in big time films: Fargo, Air Force One, Boogie Nights, Wild Hogs, The Lincoln Lawyer and most recently, Oscar-nominated Room, to name just a few. So, listen up! Mr. Macy has some major advice for those who are looking to get recognized.

“I want the character to walk into the room,” when asked what he looks for in talent. “My wish is for me not to have to say another word, just… roll the cameras and he or she will be brilliant.”

Shameless

You can catch the Oscar nominated actor in his rising Showtime series, Shameless.

Next up, New You had the pleasure of speaking with one the honorees and one of Hollywood’s brightest Casting Directors, Danny Boyle. Mr. Boyle was honored with the Artios Career Achievement Award “in recognition of his contributions to film and television, and for his longstanding creative collaborations with some of the pre-eminent casting directors working today.”

He’s responsible for the shining stars in Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and most recently, pairing Kate Winslet and Michael Fassbender up in Steve Jobs.

“If you’re gonna get Fassbender, you gotta get Kate Winslet! So, we got them and luckily they got along really well and they were a really great creative partnership at the heart of the film,” he revels at the Oscar nominated actors and their proud film.

Eyde Belasco the casting director of the Amazon sensation, Transparent, won last night for best television pilot comedy. Edye reveals what she looked for when casting the show, “We were just looking for people that we liked, that were fantastic actors, and that worked together as a family unit.” Who is she looking to cast for the next season? Emily Robinson who plays Young Rose on Transparent also came out to support Eyde Belasco and her Transparent family. “Its really been a dream. You sort of create something in a creative bubble. You don’t know necessarily how it will be received. So having such a positive reception that means so much on a personal level is just incredible.”
