Announcing the 2016 Oscar Nominations!

The 2016 Oscar nominations are in and we are not shocked at the list of impressive films and performances. “The Revenant”, “The Martian”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Room” and “Spotlight” all lead the pack in nominations across several categories.

“The Revenant” takes the cake with 12 nominations. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is right behind them with 10 nods.

HAPPY
I am most excited about Leonardo DiCaprio for his first win (we all know it’ll happen). He has been at this for 20 years when he received his first oscar nomination in 1993, at the age of 19 for his role in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.” He followed with four nominations throughout his life with the surprising omission of his Titanic performance in 1997.

Also, some love for “Straight Outta Compton” and their Original Screen Play nod which was dissed at the Golden Globes this year. Good job boys.

SAD
Will Smith was left out for “Concussion” and Johnny Depp was left out for “Black Mass”.

The 88th Annual Academy Award ceremony will air on February 28th at 8:30 PM EST on ABC and will be hosted by actor/comedian Chris Rock. It’s been a decade since Rock hosted the sparkling awards ceremony but he is no stranger to the stage. We are excited to have him back!
