Why You Shouldn’t Hate the Dentist

The first thing I notice in someone is their smile. A smile can either send me running (bye Felicia!) or have me eating out of the palm of his hand (only true if he’s holding chocolates). If I put such an emphasis on smiles, I should probably have a glowing smile myself. No double standards here.

So, let me introduce you to the Dentist! You know, the hard-working professional that always has half of his face masked. He probably has an evil grin going on there (muahaha). I hate the dentist. Like, why does he have to go Indiana Jones on me and dig all up into my mouth? Trust me, there is no hidden treasure to be found.

Be it as it may, I have to admit the importance of oral health. Did you know that your mouth reveals a lot about your health? One look inside or a swab of saliva reveals what’s going on inside your body. It is recommended to pay a visit to your dentist at least every 6 months. Regular dentist visits keep teeth and gums healthy.

There are usually two parts to your visit: the check-up and cleaning. During the checkup, your dental professional will check for all the good stuff: cavities, plaque and tartar. According to Dental Care, plaque is a clear and sticky layer of bacteria and if not removed, it hardens and turns into tartar. Brushing away at your teeth will not rid them off the tartar. The dentist needs to use a special tool, which greatly resembles Grim Reaper’s scythe (go figure) to remove the tartar. The torture comes to an end with some toothpaste, flossing and a mouthwash rinse. Grab your bag and run, but not too quickly. After all, you’ll be seeing dentist and scythe in hand in 6 months.

Here are some tips for in-between visits to keep your teeth healthy and to get that celebrity million dollar smile:

  1. Brush teeth at least twice a day with toothpaste that contains fluoride
  2. Floss at least once a day
  3. Use mouthwash rinse to help get rid of plaque and bacteria

Follow these tips and muster the courage to brave your dentist twice a year and you’ll give Hollywood’s top smiles a run for their money!

Here is the starting line-up. Who do you think has the best smile? Pst, Beiber “is it too late to say sorry?” #JK
