Selena Remembered 21 Years Later

On this day 21 years ago our hearts mourned the loss of one of the greatest performers of our era, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. At the young age of 23, the Tejano Music Queen’s life was cut short by a single gunshot wound lodged in her back by fan club president and trusted friend, Yolanda Saldívar. Although doctors tried to revive the Latin songstress, she passed away after succumbing to her injuries due to cardiac arrest and a severe loss of blood. Following her death, a biopic was released which went on to achieve massive success and become a box office smash. It was also a breakout hit for Jennifer Lopez, as the movie catapulted her career due to Lopez’s dynamic portrayal of the late singer.

Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, penned a heartfelt message to her Facebook page that read, “Can’t believe I’ve survived this long without you….it’s insane!! I miss you more than you can ever imagine…. For those who wonder what goes on inside my heart..it’s the same as what I felt on day one. Thank you to all who continue to remember her and love her…”.

From movies to cosmetics, decades later, her indelible impact still touches the heart of many because the Mexican-American pop singer was loved and adored by the world at large. Today on the 21st anniversary of her death, we continue to remember her legacy, bright spirit, and undeniable talents. More than two decades have passed but we are still dreaming of you. Rest peacefully Selena, we love you!

Here are a few celebs who have also been inspired in some way by the all-around dynamism of the Texas beauty.
