Stand Up to Cancer Announces New Celebrity Ambassador

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a charitable program that raises funds to speed up the process in cancer research just announced a new celebrity ambassador. The Walking Dead star, Sonequa Martin-Green, is the latest celebrity to represent SU2C.

Recently, SU2C announced that it’s awarding 10 grants of $750,000 each to early-career scientists to support high-risk, groundbreaking, and high-reward projects in cancer research.

Sonequa said on her new role, “I have seen the terrible toll that cancer can take in a single family, so I respect and fully support these outstanding researchers in their battle against cancer. Hopefully the innovative ideas they are pursuing will one day spare other families the losses that my family, and so many other families have endured.”

SU2C is no stranger to celebrity ambassadors and supporters. Katie Couric co-founded the charity and Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Tony Goldwyn, Jennifer Hudson, Bon Jovi, and tons of other celebrities have all participated in fundraising events for years.

To date, more than $360 million have been pledged to SU2C. New You spoke with the women behind this powerful organization, Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Ellen Ziffren, the late Laura Ziskin, and Noreen Fraser, about the amazing work they are doing.
