The Most Adorable Royal Family Portrait To Date

Tomorrow marks the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, and royal mail is celebrating by creating a limited edition set of four stamps with the royal family’s latest portrait.

I’m pretty sure we can all agree that the most adorable photo was the one that included the two-year-old heir to the British throne, Prince George.

I’ve never said so many Aww’s all at once.

This is the first time the Prince is posing for a photo on a British stamp, and there was absolutely no sign of shyness. Prince George had the biggest smile on his face while standing on a stack of books to give him extra height to clasp the hands of his father, Duke William. The portrait is remarkable because it shows the four generations of royalty.

The portraits were taken in Buckingham Palace’s White Drawing Room last year by Ranald Mackechnie, who had a surprising reaction to the shoot:

“It was much more relaxed than when I’ve tried to take pictures with my family. The joy and energy coming out of George was fantastic. It lifted the whole shot and lifted the afternoon. He was on top form. He was quite fascinated by the lights. He took it all in his stride.”

Royal Mail also created another set of six stamps which included photos of the Queen from her childhood up until now.

As of today, you can pre-order the stamps on Royal Mail’s website, and starting April 21, the stamps will be available at over 8,000 post offices in the U.K.

Just in case you ever wondered how you celebrate your 90th birthday when you’ve spent half your life being a Queen, here’s a little preview of what Queen Elizabeth’s big day will look like:

  • She will be unveiling a plaque on Windsor’s Queen’s Walkway tomorrow, followed by lighting the beacon.
  • The Queen will light the first of more than 1,000 torches or bonfires expected to be set ablaze across the U.K. and beyond on Thursday evening.
  • For Friday’s agenda, the Queen will be hosting a lunch for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

And that’s only the beginning!
