Turn Me On Instagram

The Instagram that we all know and love may soon be a thing of the past. Rumor has it that Instagram’s new algorithm will be dropping tomorrow, which will cause big changes to the way posts are displayed. Rather than the chronological list of posts that we have now, Instagram will now display the most popular photos of the people we follow first.

But what if I don’t want a non-stop carousel of Kardashian posts?! I mean, I want to follow the Kardashian-Jenner clan for fashion goals and comic relief, but I also still want to follow the people I actually care about. How is my best friend Sally’s photo, getting 60 likes, supposed to compete with Kim K’s one million plus likes for her ‘Kimoji’ photos? This is ridiculous.

Smalls business users are also worried that their posts will be drowned out by bigger brands with more clout on the social network.

Many Instagram users have taken to Twitter to vent about the new changes with hashtags #RIPInstagram and #KeepInstagramChronological.

I mean, as if it wasn’t already hard enough to compete for likes and comments, now many Instagram users are urging their followers to ‘turn on’ notifications for their posts- using the hashtag #TurnMeOn- so followers will receive an alert every time they post an update. But no one wants to get bombarded with ‘turn me on’ requests, well at least not these types anyway…

Dear Instagram, how are you going to decide what I actually want to see and know what is important to me?

I want to see pictures of the people I follow…that’s why I follow them. #TurnThisOffInstagram
