Unforgettable Amy Set for Biopic
Posted On Nov 06, 2015
Cultural icon and masterful musician Amy Winehouse is the latest Hollywood tale of tragedy gone biopic. This comes months after the release of Asif Kapadia’s critically-acclaimed Winehouse documentary Amy, which generated a lot of controversy for its portrayal of Winehouse and her father, Mitch Winehouse.
Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, right at the peak of her musical career and rise to fame.
The Amy Winehouse biopic will be written and directed by filmmaker Kristen Sheridan. The Irish director’s most notable work, August Rush, didn’t receive much attention despite its brilliant cast that included the late Robin Williams, and two of my personal faves, Keri Russell (Felicity) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors).
Sheridan seems to be a good fit for the anticipated biopic as she shares her hopes for the film in a recent statement: “Amy’s music is felt so deeply by the audience because it was deeply personal. Her vulnerability was her strength. She was called many things — a diva, a lost soul preyed upon by tabloids, a tortured genius; our aim is an innovative, emotional and life-affirming approach as we go through the looking glass into her life and art.”
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who first broke out as the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is in talks to star as the harrowing Winehouse.
We truly hope they knock it out of the park like the N.W.A – Straight Outta Compton and CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story sweeping home runs.
