4 MYTHS ABOUT MAKEUP AT THE GYM

This has to be one of the most highly debated topics in the makeup/fitness industry: if you wear makeup to the gym, what do you wear? As a makeup lover, I was curious about the topic because I pursue a very active (and therefore sweaty) lifestyle if we’re being honest.  I love feeling confident while working out, but what products are the best? As I was researching, I found some fallacies that I wanted to dispel. Here are the do’s and don’ts of gym makeup, as well as the top products on the market.

MYTH #1: ANY MASCARA WORKS AT THE GYM

Countless articles will tell you to wear your normal makeup to the gym. However, if you’ve ever been through a 60-minute HIIT workout or anything of the like, you know regular mascara is not an option.

Instead, use Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara ($24) which will keep those lashes looking fresh and long. Most importantly, no one will be calling you “Raccoon” by the end of the workout.

MYTH #2: ANTI-SHINE PRODUCTS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND

Many people recommend anti-shine products that will compensate for the sweat. The reality is, the more products on your face, the worse off you will be. These anti-shine products often are the thickest type of makeup as well and can clog up the pores, causing breakouts.

It’s best to stick with lightweight creams like Lune+Aster CC cream ($52) that also has SPF 50. This product will cover any redness or uneven areas in the skin tone to help you feel confident during your workout.

MYTH #3 YOU CAN STILL DO YOUR FULL MAKEUP ROUTINE

Sorry to break it to you, but this is definitely false. Your full makeup routine, that targets every aspect of the face will overwhelm your pores when combined with sweat.

Instead, focus on key areas of the face, like the lips. For those who want to fully commit to a great lip, we love Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink ($9.49) for its superior quality. This matte stick will stay put no matter if you’re lifting weights or biking across the country.

MYTH #4 FORGET THE BROW GEL AT THE GYM

We do recommend that you avoid doing your full makeup routine, however, if a strong brow is your must-have for killing your work out, then we won’t stop you. Try out Maybelline’s Tatoo Studio Waterproof Eyebrow Gel ($13) that is smudge-proof and guaranteed to stay on through every jump squat, step or rep. It won’t run into your eyes because of the consistency and there is nothing better than a well-groomed brow. Think about how great you feel after getting your brows done? I know I feel like a queen and as put together as Beyonce herself.
