Chin Up! Khloe Kardashian Has Your Facial Fat Fix

Tired of that annoying double chin that just won’t go away, no matter how much weight you lose? Khloe Kardashian has the solution for you! The reality TV star has signed on as a celebrity ambassador for Kybella, a non-surgical injectable procedure that reduces the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin, formally defined as submental fat.

The Kocktails with Khloe host stunned fans last December with her impressive 40lb weight loss, which she attributed to a dairy-free diet and a strong commitment to the gym. However, experts agree that some areas on the body, including submental fat, are notoriously difficult to slim down through exercise and diet alone. The stubborn double chin afflicts nearly 70% of Americans, according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Enter Kybella. The FDA-approved cosmetic injectable is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a fat cell membrane disruptor that already exists in the human body naturally. Dr. Stafford Broumand, a plastic surgeon who has worked with Kybella since last fall explained the process, saying, “When it is expertly injected into a target area, it “dissolves” the fat cell. Then, over time the fat is absorbed and processed by the body. “

The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes and each session requires 20 shots. Dr. Broumand said, “The treatment can be done quickly, but the dissolving and absorption of the fat takes several weeks and usually there is a second treatment, done several weeks later. Results are visible several weeks after the treatment. Of note, there can be swelling and firmness until the fat is dissolved.”

Side effects are minimal and temporary, according to Dr. Broumand, and Kybella has proven to be effective. He said, “It is the first FDA-approved chemical/molecular treatment for localized fat.”

Khloe is the face of Kybella’s aptly named Chin Up campaign, which kicked off in New York City on March 3. Philippe Schaison, EVP and President of Allergan Medical, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Kybella, said, “As someone who lives life in the public eye, Khloé embodies what it means to live chin up by refusing to let negativity stand in her way. We feel she is the perfect person to kick off this inspiring campaign.”

Now you can follow Khloe’s example and keep your chin up, while zapping away any pesky fat that might be under it.
