Spring has sprung and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is just around the corner. The annual festival will be held at its usual stomping grounds, the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, over the weekends of April 14-16 and April 21-23. Sold out in less than 3 hours, plenty of big name artists will be on the bill including headliners Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga (Beyoncé’s “replacement”) and the much-anticipated Lorde who hasn’t toured since 2014.
If you are lucky enough to wear that coveted wrist band or just want to live vicariously through the VIPs; here is what you need to put in your backpack to get you through the weekend.
As you are trekking from one stage to another to catch your favorite acts it’s important to keep your feet happy. Nothing will ruin your experience faster than a ton of blisters.
Lifestyle footwear brand Malvados are specifically designed for the girl who loves music, travel, and fashion (tagline: Come Wander with Us). This Vancouver based company recently debuted its sandal collection just in time for festival season. With over 30 styles in three categories: Lux, which features a super comfy EVA top sole and thin metallic strap; Icon, with hints of metal, braids, and hardware details; and Playa, a one-piece EVA thong sandal – there is an option for everyone.
Just as important (if not MORE important) as what you hear at Coachella is what you wear at Coachella. Sure there will be floral crowns a plenty, but when the temperatures rise you are going to want to be in something light and breezy.
The Exotic Locale White Crocheted Cover-Up ($62) is the perfect option for loose attire that won’t cling to your body as the desert sun beats down. Boasting a gauzy woven fabric, adjustable crisscrossing straps, and embroidered cut outs throughout we are definitely feeling this flirty, feminine look.
Nothing is worse than crowd surfing through Coachella looking and feeling like a boiled lobster; after all they don’t call it a party in the desert for nothing. There will be sun and LOTS of it!
According to NYC dermatologist, Dr. Elizabeth Hale, “It’s important to protect your skin from the sun by using a broad spectrum SPF. It is the number one way to prevent premature aging and keep a youthful and radiant complexion.”
Try Isdin Eryfotona Actinica ($50), this ultra-lightweight SPF 50+ has the power of photolyase, a DNA repair enzyme that (when activated by light) helps boost the skin’s natural recovery process. In addition, this sunscreen contains Vitamin E and 11% Zinc Oxide. Best of all it is instantly absorbed and invisible seconds after applying; so it’s great for under makeup.
Statement Beach Towel
The campgrounds are expected to be filled with more festival goers than ever this year – might as well stand out in the grass. Plus, a trendy towel sets the backdrop for the perfect Instagram photo.
Check out the Roundie ($110) from The Beach People, designed in Australia and crafted from the highest quality textiles, this towel is built to last. Perfectly sized for a music festival, the round towel has a plush velour top for comfortable lounging and a terry cloth reverse side that quickly absorbs water. The Roundie is 100% cotton and available in several iconic prints each inspired by a different experience, location, or aesthetic inspiration.
