Get Your Feet Ready For Sandal Season

Winter is over which means sandal season is upon us! But before you slip into those open-toed shoes, you better make sure your feet are summer-ready. Many of us disregard foot care during the colder months because who’s going to see them anyway, right? However, often the result is dry skin, cracked heels, and rough toenails, none of which are exactly attractive. Which is why now is the perfect time to give your feet a seasonal makeover!

Samira Far, the founder of Bellacures, a high-end nail salon franchise beloved by Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Garner, couldn’t agree more. She said, “Prepping your feet for summer is essential!  After being covered up and neglected all winter, you should give your feet extra TLC to get ready to show them off again.“

So stop putting off that pedicure appointment! Samira said, “I suggest getting one or two really special pedicures, one that includes callus repair treatment, and a good scrub and moisturizing treatment, leading up to the summer months.  After that, bi-weekly pedicures to maintain the health and fresh look is great!”

Samira also shared some advice for integrating foot care into your daily hygiene routine. She said, “Maintaining the health of your feet between pedicures can be done easily at home.  Simply moisturizing them before bed will help keep the skin soft and supple.  You can also buy a pumice stone and do a light scrub in the shower every few days to help prevent callus build-up in between salon visits.”

If you already experience extremely dry skin or have trouble with problem areas like your heels, a little extra foot care is advised. Skincare consultant Dr. Joshua Zeichner said, “Hydrating and exfoliating dead cells can help transition the feet to the spring and summer climates. Especially if you are walking around without shoes, cracks in the skin can predispose the feet to infections, so you need to be extra careful. “

Dr. Zeichner recommends using a urea-based product. He said, “Ingredients like urea can help improve skin hydration and exfoliate dead cells at the same time, leaving the skin softer and more supple.” Urea is already found naturally in your skin’s tissues and plays a crucial role in maintaining your skin’s moisture balance and smoothness. A couple of urea-based products to try include Excipial’s 10% Urea Hydrating Healing Lotion and 20% Urea Intensive Healing Cream.

Lastly, don’t forget to care for your toenails, even between pedicure appointments. Products such as Dermelect’s High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener absorb UV light, which prevents the fading and yellowing of the toenails under all that summer sun. It will also thicken and strengthen your nails while improving nail flexibility and moisture levels.

Go ahead and give your feet a little extra loving now, so you can put your best peep-toe forward this summer!
