Just like our eyes, joints, and skin, our hair ages us.  As decades pass, and years of chemical and heating styling takes its toll, one’s once luscious locks can often thin, break and limp. Here are three tips in maintaining a healthy mane:

Get the Glow:  Get healthy and glossy hair by properly nourishing your body, and eating adequate amounts of protein and foods containing omega 3 fatty acids like salmon, flaxseeds and walnuts.  This will feed the scalp where hair follicles are alive and active.   Biotin supplements are known to enhance hair health, while a general practice of weekly deeply deep condition are both  important for healthy hair as well.

When in doubt get Layers: Keep your hair up to date because style matters. Hair that falls to the waistline can seem out dated depending on the person, but long layers can add that bounce and modernity to any mane. Layers and a little texture or wave not only add style, they can also detract from lines and wrinkles.

Trim and Color:  In this case it’s okay to play it safe and refresh your natural color.  Do not go darker! Try adding a few highlights to your hair to add a pop of color and to cover grays.  If you are opting for a color change go one or two shades lighter.  Lastly get rid of dry dull ends, straggles and a stringy look keep up with trims when retouching your roots.
