Hair for the Ages

Get Fresh and Edgy

I am always trying to update my look and that inevitably includes experimenting with different hairstyles. While wanting to stay up-to-date I also want to select a style that is appropriate for my age. With that in mind, I talked to George Gonzalez from “George the salon Chicago,” about great cuts for women over 40.  George, who styled Cindy Crawford’s hair for a recent episode of “Oprah’s Lifeclass” discussed styles that can “cross over to any age.”

40’s – Keep it Long and Layered

“Try adding long fringe or interior shape around the face,” George says. “Choppy layers will work well with naturally wavy or curly hair, since they will give you even more texture to work with. Soft blended layers are an easy way to add movement.” Try referencing starlets like Jennifer Aniston, Sofia Vergara, or Sarah Jessica Parker whose long layered locks have definitely set trends.

50’s – Not too late to try a Bob

George recommends shaggy, blunt or layered cuts. “These styles have so many varieties that can be tailored to your needs perfectly.” Reference starlets like Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz, or Jenny McCartney, who have all tried notably hip layered bobs.

60’S –Take it to the Shoulder

“Shoulder length hair is one of the few hairstyles that look great on everyone, no matter your face shape or natural texture. It is classic yet stylish.” Try referencing stars like Heidi Klum, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba who have all taken their looks to the shoulder.

Most importantly: No matter what hair cut you choose, never be afraid to experiment with your hair.
