Wedding Band or Ring Finger Tattoo?
Posted On Apr 12, 2016
If you take a look back, wedding rings were originally worn as a token of never-ending love. The purpose of the circle shape symbolized eternity and the open space in the middle represented a gateway leading to both the known and unknown, among you and your spouse. The exchange of wedding rings carries a strong sense of tradition and historical value transcending back centuries. However, within modern day society, are wedding rings becoming a thing of the past? Ring finger tattoos are becoming more popular as an increased number of couples are using ink as a symbol of their love. Not to be the Debby Downer or diminish the beauty and creative art associated with matching wedding ring tattoos, but honestly, what do you do if your tattoo outlasts your relationship?
Many would argue love isn’t about the bling, it’s about the shared experience of getting matching tattoos. Although this is true, let’s just say back in 2012, you were with your “then” boo John but things went south. Now it’s 2016, and you’re ready to walk down the aisle with Ben but there’s one slight problem -John’s initials are still branded on your left ring finger.
Sometimes, true love fades away and it fades away long before tattoos because the ink is a bit more permanent. Unless, of course, you are willing to shell out the coins to have it removed, it’s best to stay away from matching tattoos. Besides, the removal of a tattoo is excruciating pain and can be related to the hurt you experienced with your past lover because it stings just like a broken heart!
Before partaking in the shared experience with your beau of getting matching tattoos, think long, hard, and realistically. Let’s not forget, wedding bands are detachable, tattoo rings are not. Although the option of getting laser removal is available, it can leave scarring which can ultimately still remind us of the bitter past with an ex-lover.
