What Color Looks Best with Your Skin Tone?

Do you ever wear a certain color and know that you look Beyoncé flawless in it? The reason for that has to do with your surface skin tone and your accompanying undertone. Determining your surface tone is easy: ivory, light, medium, tan, dark etc. The tricky part is determining your undertone: cool, warm, or neutral. Once you find your undertone there are certain colors that will make your skin shine and bring out your inner-Beyoncé on all occasions.

Here are some tricks to finding out your undertone.

  1. Check Your Veins

Pull up your sleeves and look at the veins on the inside of your wrists. Are they green or blue? If they look green, you have warm undertones. If they are bluer, you’re more cool. Green-veined peeps, your veins aren’t actually green they just look it because you’re seeing them through yellow-toned skin (yellow + blue = green). If you have trouble telling the color, you are probably neutral.

  1. The Jewelry Trick

Are you more of a silver or gold wearer when it comes to jewelry? Which color makes your skin look more radiant, glowing, and awake? Girls with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum and girls with warm tones look better in gold.

  1. Hair and Eye Color

Your hair and eye colors can also help you to figure out your coloring. Normally, cool people have eyes that are blue, gray, or green and have blonde, brown, or black hair with blue, silver, violet, and ash undertones. On the other side, warm-toned people usually have brown, amber, or hazel eyes with strawberry blond, red, brown, or black hair. Their hair tending to have gold, red, orange, or yellow undertones.

  1. The Sun’s Effects

How your skin reacts to the sun is another sign of your skin undertone. Do you turn a golden-brown or do you burn and turn a little pink first? If you turn in to a bronzed babe you are most likely warm-toned. If you burn before you tan, you are a cool tone. Fair-skinned, cool girls will simply burn, while medium-skinned, cool-toned girls will burn then tan.

  1. Identify with a Celebrity

Another way to identify your undertone is to pick a star your skin tone matches up with. Cool undertoned celebs: Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Cara Delevingne, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Martha Hunt. Warm undertoned celebs: Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Alba, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, and Rachel Bilson. Neutral undertoned celebs: Julianne Moore, Lena Dunham, Julia Roberts, and Kerry Washington.

Now that you have determined your undertone, here is what colors look best on you!

If you are neutral, you look good in all colors of the rainbow because you have a mix of cool and warm undertones. But in general, it’s better to choose slightly softened sherbet shades, like muted raspberry, lemon, and lavender.

So there you have it, now go clean out your closet and throw away any color that isn’t flattering to your skin tone!
