Brangelina’s Book Worms

Who knows what the future might hold for a generation raised on portable screens. The Pitt’s are putting down their iPads, for a day in the bookstore on New York’s upper west side. Brad and Angelina are spotted with 7-year-old twins, Vivienne and Knox, for a little family book bonding.

Seems like this power couple has the right idea! While more and more parents are sticking tablets and smartphones in their kids faces, some still use a good ole’ fashion tool… the imagination.

Changes definitely need to be made in the U.S. when it comes to our culture’s tech-hungry parenting and it all starts with, a conversation. There is a certain endearing dialog that takes place during story time that actually can effect your children’s development. This conversation alone is both brainpower and priceless.

In a New York Times article, “Conversations with each other are the way children learn to have conversations with themselves, and learn how to be alone,” said Sherry Turkle, a professor of science, technology and society at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

She continues to point out, “Learning about solitude and being alone is the bedrock of early development, and you don’t want your kids to miss out on that because you’re pacifying them with a device.”

It’s so refreshing to spotlight this nurturing and more traditional side of Hollywood, for a change.

… and the sunny haired twins came out of the store glowing with bags of books. The end.
