*Update: We are sad to report that Joey Feek has passed away. The 40-year-old Country singer died at 2:30 this afternoon surrounded by loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Feek family during this difficult time.
Joey Feek’s hospice nurse said Monday morning that the terminally-ill star has just a ‘few more days’. Joey’s husband, Rory Feek shared the devastating news that his wife ‘has been asleep for days now and her body is shutting down quickly’.
Joey was diagnosed with an aggressive case of cervical cancer back in June 2014. Though she underwent treatment for the disease, the cancer spread and in October 2015 the doctors revealed there was nothing to be done. Sadly, Joey was given 6 months to live after being diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer.
As difficult as the circumstances have been, the couple has shared a memorable month of February. Joey’s last wish was to make it long enough to see the couple’s daughter, Indiana, turn two! Sure enough, Joey and Rory were able to celebrate their daughter’s second birthday and Joey and Indy shared a special moment when Joey embraced her daughter and gave her ‘one last kiss’.
Then on Valentine’s Day, the couple got to sleep in the same bed for the first time since November! Rory shared how happy he was to be able to hold his wife in his arms for the first time in months.
Rory has shared the couple’s gratitude for all the support and love they have received form their family, friends and fans. Knowing his wife is at peace with the situation reassures Rory that when Joey does take her last breath, she’ll be doing it in the company of all those that love her. We love you Joey and we’re pulling for you!
