Marin Short Talks Shakespeare at 25th Annual Simply Shakespeare Benefit
Posted On Dec 09, 2015
Last night was the 25th Annual Simply Shakespeare Benefit hosted by the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) in Santa Monica, CA. New You got to chat with Saturday Night Live’s Martin Short who played Feste the Clown in the benefit reading of “Twelfth Night.”
Short explains the importance of foundations like SCLA. “Shakespeare has to be presented [to the youth] and that is what this organization does. It goes into schools and says- you’re not teaching Shakespeare so we will now for free give you some information about this genius and his plays. It’s very worthwhile, the arts must be supported by private foundations to keep them alive. These things are very important.”
Short also lets us in on his favorite Shakespeare play, Macbeth, and drops a line for us. “Out, vile jelly! Where is thy luster now.” If that was any indication as to how the reading of “Twelfth Night” last night we are eager for more!
