This was the chaotic scene in New York City when Kanye West surprised fans in Lower Manhattan with a pop-up show. But as you can imagine, it was shut down pretty quickly. Since the third day of the Governor’s Ball Music Festival was cancelled due to bad weather and Kanye was scheduled to perform, he hinted online that he was going to perform a surprise show. The rap star showed up to play a short set at Hot 97 Summer Jam, and then it was rumored that he was planning a gig at two in the morning at New York’s Webster Hall. And yes, by midnight the streets were packed. At 10 PM, Yeezy tweeted that the show was sold out, but a reported 4,000 people showed up at Webster Hall, and there were near-riot conditions. West even tried to have the mayor shut down a couple of blocks so the party could go down, but he didn’t get his wish. What can you say, at least he tried!
