In just eight years, Thirst Project has raised over $8 million to provide over 280,000 people around the world with safe, clean water. “It is amazing how fast it has grown,” says singer and actress Aijia Grammar. “The fact that people who started it like Seth (Maxwell) are so young and built this momentum over the past few years is just amazing and so inspiring.” Aija and her husband Andy Grammar attended Thirst Project’s 8th Annual Thirst Gala in Los Angeles last night. They joined many other celebrities who offered their star power to this very worthwhile cause. “Thirst project is geared towards kids – helping to educate them and help them understand the huge crisis,” added actor Shane Harper. “When they first started this project eight years ago, there were a billion people without access to clean drinking water and now we are down to 663 million and slowly chipping away.” For Seth Maxwell, who together with a few of his college friends started Thirst Project after becoming aware of the global water crisis, it is important to continue to raise awareness. “I am doubling down to expand our school programs,” he said. “Students and the young are really the life blood of what we do with our projects so we are aggressively doubling down on the school tours where we do video tournaments, walks and dances – all to raise awareness.” While introducing the Volunteer Recipient award to two recipients at the Gala last night, actor Drake Ball praised the efforts of students Kareem Kaptan and Laura Mayberry. “Last year through their Academy of Global Studies, Kareem and Laura raised $24,000 – faster than any Thirst Project’s history, funding not one but two wells,” he announced. The immediate goal of Thirst Project is to provide safe, clean water and sanitation to the entire nation of Swaziland by 2022. “In just eight years, 400 million people have been given access to clean drinking water – we will absolutely see the end of the water crises!” added the very determined Maxwell. We have full confidence that his organization will do as much.
