NORMAN LEAR SAYS THERE COULD BE A NEW GUY FOR MACHADO’S CHARACTER

Could there be romance in the air for Penelope Alvarez (Justine Machado) in second season of Netflix’s One Day at a Time? “Well, there is definitely the continuation of a great family,” said the legendary Norman Lear. “Maybe there will be a guy in Machado’s life.” We can only wait with anticipation. NEW YOU caught up with Lear and writer Brent Miller at the premiere of Netflix’s, One Day at a Time in Los Angeles. Both writers worked on the original sitcom to focus on the lives of a Cuban – American family.  Asked why they chose this re-purpose this classic show, Miller gave an abridged reason. “We felt it important to bring back some of the legacy shows and we felt there was a need for a Hispanic audience to be represented on television,” he said. “We thought what about bring this show and the rest is history.” And when second season was announced? “We fell down,” laughed Lear.
