When it comes to being healthy, American idol judge, Randy Jackson, had plenty of good advice. “Dance a lot, smile a lot, be happy and eat right,” he said. In a February 2008 television commercial, Jackson stated that he has type 2 diabetes. NEW YOU caught up with Jackson at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital 4th annual Kaleidoscope 5 Light event in Culver City, Los Angeles this past weekend. The gala raised a record-breaking $3.5 million to support pediatric research. The money raised was all part of the university’s Centennial Campaign for UCLA, a $4.2 billion fundraising drive scheduled to conclude in 2019, on their 100th anniversary. For Jackson it was all about giving back. “Helping kids raising money and raising efforts to try and help further kids development with their medical issues,” said the American bassist, singer and Grammy award winning record producer. Actress Kate Hudson was honored with the hospital’s “Kaleidoscope Award,” which was presented by reality television stars Erin and Sara Foster of VH1’s Barely Famous.
