Los Angeles was host to the premiere of Man Down, starring Shia LaBeouf as U.S Marine Gabriel Drummer. In the movie, LeBeouf’s character returns from Afghanistan to find the place he once called home is really no better than the battlefields he fought on overseas. All the actors interviewed on the red carpet last night felt very strongly about the lack of options and care for veterans who experience any kind of post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD). “PTSD is not really talked about,” said Kate Mara who plays the Marine’s wife, Natalie Drummer. “It is important for people to talk about what soldiers go through and by doing that hopefully change will come about.” Jai Courtney, who plays the character Devin Roberts in the film, spoke about how important it is to tell the story. “I have friends who are veterans who have dealt with the same struggles we talk about in this movie,” he says. “I have seen the struggles millions of families go through. They don’t have the resources and their questions are just left hanging out to dry.” He and LaBeouf traveled together to New Orleans where the movie was shot to get to know each other and talk about their characters. “When you can touch someone – art becomes more special,” added the Director, Dito Montiel.
