The Rendezvous: Your Weekly Review in a Few

Thank goodness it’s Friday! This week has been quite the whirlwind, per usual. If you aren’t up to date with the Stanford scandal, you need to read this  letter right now. The victim in this sexual assault got the short end of the stick this week, but there is a sort of bright light at the end of the tunnel for women with Hilary Clinton basically winning the democratic nomination. Baby steps. Europe has also had some scandalous headlines this week too. Here is your weekly Rendezvous!

The Stanford Scandal

Last year, a former Stanford student raped an unconscious girl behind a dumpster on campus, a crime with a max prison sentence of 14 years. This week the verdict came out that Brock Turner will be sentenced to six months in jail because according to the judge, a longer sentence would have a “severe impact” on him. Turner’s father released a statement sayings things like “my son shouldn’t be punished for 20 minutes of action.” Turner’s statement was also released. He says his life has been “shattered” and blames the schools “party culture.” Then the victim shut them all down with her goosebump-ensuing open letter to her attacker. The world has the victim’s back tenfold. The judge is facing angry mobs and calls to be removed from his job. Everyone is saying that Turner’s short term sentencing is mostly due to the fact that he is a privileged white college swimmer. If the swim shoe fits? Well, it doesn’t matter because it was just released Friday that Turner will be banned from USA Swimming for life. It was also announced that he will only be serving 50% of his sentence time, 3 months instead of 6 months. He is set to be released on September 2nd.

Hilary Clinton won California’s Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday. This was hours after she secured enough super delegates to make her the presumptive presidential nominee. This is the first time in history that a woman has ever declared the top spot on the ticket of a major party. Bernie Sanders though, has previously pledged to stay in the race until the Democratic convention in July. Twitter went crazy with support on Tuesday night, starting the hashtag #ImWithHer. Then President Barack Obama endorsed Clinton, saying, “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office.” Political agendas aside, history has been made and this moment will be recorded in history books to come! #GirlPower

Let’s Get Chocolate Wasted

There is a new drug craze in town, chocolate! European partiers are drinking, eating, and snorting cocoa instead of traditional inebriants like alcohol and club drugs. Chocoholic ravers are popping cacao pills at midnight dance parties. A chocolatier has even invented a $50 snorting device for a faster sugar fix. However, Dr. Catherin Kwik-Uribe, director of research and development for Mars Symbioscience, said that outside of a slight mood boost, any high reported by cocoa snorters is probably resulting from a placebo effect. Either way, this seems like a better alternative than club drugs to create an inhibition-free environment. Pluc- peace. love. unity. chocolate!

Celebrity Tweets: Hacked Edition

Earlier this week, a massive Twitter breach happened and many of our favorite celebs got hacked. Lana Del Rey tweeted, “Bush did 911.” Kylie Jenner tweeted, “my sex tape with Tyga was trash.” The Tenacious D account tweeted that Jack Black had died. Katy Perry, Drake, and the NFL’s accounts were taken over with nonsense tweets. Even the tech god, Mark Zuckerberg got hacked. And the hacker released that his LinkedIn password was “dadada”. That doesn’t sound very secure, Marky. The real identities of these hackers are unknown, but apparently this all started with the LinkedIn data breach that happened in 2012, when a total of 167 million accounts were compromised. Two weeks ago, a hacker known by the name of “Peace” sold the email and passwords of all the breached accounts, which brings us to the celebrity Twitter hacks. It is unclear who the actual individual celebrity Twitter hackers are so to be safe, everyone go change your passwords now!

Naked & Hungry

It’s 2016 and we are all in search for the most organic and natural restaurant around. Well, we have just found it. The Bunyadi is the world’s first naked restaurant – no clothes, no phones, no electricity. The restaurant promises it is “free from the trappings of modern life.” All the cooking is done by fire, the furniture is hand-carved, and the food is served on homemade clay plates with edible cutlery. Guests will change into a gown and can disrobe if they choose. There is also a “clothed” section for those who wish to remain dressed while dining. They will serve both vegan and non-vegan meals as well as organic wine. The restaurant opens June 11th, and will only be open for three months. There is already a wait list of about 45,000. Bon a petite!

Also, don’t forget to tune into the Tony Awards this Sunday at 8pm ET on CBS. Happy weekend!
