A study published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health found that dog owners walk more than those without a pooch, averaging four walks a week for 160 minutes of physical activity. We are all looking for an excuse to get a dog, and I think we’ve just found it.

There’s no doubt that you’ll boost your fitness by owning any dog, but if you are a relatively active person, you need a dog to match your energy. Whether you like to run, swim, hike, or do beach yoga, these ultra-active breeds will help you stay in shape.
