As we age, we realize we’re not as invincible as we think. We stuff our faces with sugary, fattening foods and lounge around right after. Most of us believe it won’t affect our bodies too much since we’re “young” and get away with living this lifestyle until our bodily changes tell us  our metabolism has slowed down. If you’re gaining weight and are having a difficult time losing it, it’s time for new eating habits and exercise routines to bring your digestion back to speed. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love these tips on how to boost your metabolism to quickly burn calories and gain more energy.

“Power 3” Plate

Any foodie would love to hear that eating all day would boost their metabolism. However, the catch is that they should be small meals consumed every three hours. Each meal should have three small portions of protein, carbs, and vegetables. Enhance your metabolic rate by digesting small frequent meals.


Hearty Breakfast

Fresh fruit, grains, and protein makes a well-balanced breakfast. Eat a hearty breakfast daily to increase your metabolism after an overnight fast, so you’re able to burn more calories throughout the day.

Negative –Calorie Foods

Candy, cookies, doughnuts, and other tasty sugary treats we enjoy are empty-calorie foods, meaning they have no nutritional value. Broccoli, asparagus, apples, and pineapples, just to name a few, are negative-calorie foods. Consuming negative calorie foods help burn more calories. The calories you intake while eating these foods are burned as you chew and digest.

No Late-Night Eating

Stuffing your face before bed is a no-no. The body stores more food before bed to prepare for the overnight fast leading to weight gain.

Spice it up!

Don’t be a sissy and eat spicy foods. Some studies have revealed spicy foods can increase your metabolism. Stop by the groceries store and try different types of peppers. Buy one a week to incorporate it into your meals.

I know that eating at least five times a day is good news to some of us but don’t forget to drink at least eight glasses a day and exercise regularly for an immediate increase in metabolic rates. Happy eating!
