Are you waking up on the wrong side of the bed? Moping around all day will bring negative energy to yourself and those around you. Try brightening up your day with this list of natural ways to boost your mood.

 

Sing Your Heart Out.

Researchers from the University of Manchester have discovered that the brain can find singing gratifying. There’s an organ in the inner ear connected to the brain that responds to melodic sounds. So, sing on your way to work, at home, or church. Sing anywhere and anytime for happy vibes!

 

 

Eat Mind Foods.

Some studies suggest that certain foods affect your mood more than others and can even fight depression! Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, can help fight depression while foods that contain carbohydrates and vitamin D can help boost serotonin levels.

 

Surround yourself with happy people.

When you’re isolated, you tend to think deeply into different life events that might affect your mood. Surround yourself with happy people for positive distraction. Set aside your pride and talk about your problems for needed emotional support.

 

Listen to Bob Marley and act as if “Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be All Right”.

Smiling activates happiness in the brain. Make an effort to smile more and act happy. Faking it will actually beat your bad moods.

 

 

Exercise regularly.

Literally, brighten up your day.

Give yourself a “light treatment.” Open up the blinds and the curtains for natural sunlight. Swap out your light bulbs to fluorescent bulbs and place them in areas that lack sunlight in your home. Lastly, step out or take a walk to catch some fresh air and clear the mind.

 

Hug someone or a furry friend.

Play with your dog or cat to release some feel-good hormones. Hugging friends and family can also uplift endorphins, making you feel relaxed and content.

Are you not a fan of talking to your peers? Express yourself through art. “Artsy” activities allow you to vent and pour out any emotions while still having something awesome to show your friends. Letting your creative juices flow will distract you just enough to forget about what’s bugging you at that time.
