R.I.P Red Solo Cups

Gone are the days of red solo cups – but for a good reason. Let me introduce you to Loliware, a seaweed based disposable cup that comes in different flavors. The cup is edible and comes in flavors like citrus or matcha tea. They are designed to replace disposable cups at parties that would normally end up in the trash.

Leigh Ann Tucker, the co-founder of Loliware said, “It’s really meant to be eaten, and we’ve designed it to be something that would taste good and that you would want to eat. There actually is no waste left behind because you’ve eaten it, and it’s gone.”

If drinkers don’t want to eat the cup, it can also be composted, unlike bioplastic compostable dinnerware that only breaks down in industrial composting facilities. If a cup is littered outside, it will also break down quickly, or potentially become a snack for wildlife.

This is a huge step in the right direction especially because these red solo cups, more often than not, end up in our water systems and in our landfills. Another major step has been taken by the Florida-based Saltwater Brewery. They have created a 100% biodegradable compostable, edible, and plastic-free six-pack holder that is made out of wheat and barley – byproducts of the brewing process. Now we can enjoy all the fun of drinking while knowing we aren’t impacting the environment!

Can I get a margarita with a side of social responsibility please?!
