Remembering Christina Grimmie

It’s hard to share headlines with the two tragic events that occurred in Orlando over the weekend but Christina Grimmie fans, friends, and celebrity support continue to flood the internet with love and prayer. But, with the exception of the heavyweight list of celebrities from The Voice, we don’t really know much about the late singer-songwriter.
Her brother, Marcus, writes…
“Christina was more than my sister. She was a partner in life,” he continued. “A superstar. A goofball. Introverted. And a friend to everyone. Genuinely. But above all…she was my baby sister. She loved the Lord and her family and was always there for me and I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
The 22-year old singer from NBC’s The Voice was shot dead on Friday by an unstable fan. Grimmie was signing autographs late Friday after a show at The Plaza Live theater in Orlando when a man approached and opened fire. The shooter, a 27-year-old man wielding two handguns, then fatally shot himself after Christina’s brother heroically tackled him down.
The connection between Grimmie and the shooter is still unknown.
Adam Levine, Christina’s coach on The Voice, reached out to her family to pay for all her funeral expenses. Christina’s brother Marcus Grimmie, posted on Facebook that he was “blown away” after learning the Maroon 5 singer “personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight.”
Other Voice mates Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and celeb friends Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, also spoke their sentiments on social media over the weekend.
Christina was a New Jersey native moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. She became a digital powerhouse, amassing more than three million subscribers on YouTube. She was soon discovered by the stepdad of pop star Selena Gomez who became a lasting friend and later toured with.
Her career has been on an upward trajectory since then, fueled by her memorable appearance on The Voice, CNN reports.
Christina stunned judges and audiences with her towering voice and shining charisma on Season 6 of NBC’s The Voice. Her blind audition (shown above) where she nailed “Wrecking Ball,” now has over 10 million views.
Adam Levine was the lucky one to snag her. She made Levine a proud judge by placing in third in the competition.
Fresh off the show, Christina toured across the country, performing alongside some the the industry’s biggest and was in full swing of living her dream.
New You had the blessed opportunity to interview her the month before her tragic death. On Saturday, May 7th, our cameras snagged a chat with Grimmie on the red carpet of the Humane Society of The United States Award Gala in LA, where Christina told us about her love for animals.
“I absolutely adore animals. It’s like my life and breath,” Christina goes on to gloat about her dog Chloe with only the passion that a dog owner has. The animal lover has worked with the Humane Society in the past and says she is honored to be part of this campaign.
The late signer also shared with us her beauty tips and tricks, which she clearly had fun with. Christina expressed her funky style of fashion with colored tipped locks of greens and blues, smoky eyes with a side of glam. “I’m not so much a girly girl,” she explained, “but I like to keep it sleek.”
She topped off the interview talking about her new music and summer touring where we grimly left off Friday night on June the 10th.
A singer, a voice, a heart, a soul… we were honored to cross your path, Christina Grimmie.
