Bone Healthy Fruit

NEW YOU Health Tip: Dried plums are a naturally sweet solution to bone loss.

Just how healthy are prunes? A recent study conducted by a Florida State professor found that prunes have the ability to suppress the rate at which the bone breaks down, which tends to exceed the rate of new bone growth as people age. Prunes, or dried plums, have a high concentration of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that help reduce bone loss. Additionally, prunes contain the mineral boron, which helps regulate mineral metabolism and increase calcium absorption. This is particularly helpful to postmenopausal women, who are most susceptible to osteoporosis and fractures. The study recommends eating up to 10 prunes daily.
