Carotenoids for Strong Bones

NEW YOU Anti-Aging Tip:To fight bone weakening caused by osteoporosis be sure to eat foods high in carotenoids like carrots, tomatoes, and bell peppers.

A recent study shows that eating certain veggies can help fight the effects of osteoporosis, the bone thinning condition, which plagues many women. Scientists at the Dietary Assessment and Epidemiology Research Program and the Antioxidants Research Laboratory compared the carotenoid intake and bone density of 540 women and found that those who consumed more carotenoid-rich vegetables experience the least bone loss. The results suggest that the compound can inhibit the process of bone resorption or weakening due in part to its antioxidant capabilities.
