While studies have shown that long-term exercise can improve recall, a new study found that just 20 minutes of exercise— specifically weight-training or resistance exercise—can boost long-term memory, as well as bone health. The research, conducted by the Georgia Institute of Technology, found that people who lifted weights had increased saliva measures of alpha amylase—a marker of central norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter essential to memory recall.
