How Long Should Sex Really Last?
Posted On Apr 08, 2016
It’s something we all ask ourselves, or at least wonder about, especially after a questionable nighttime romp. How long is sex supposed to take, normally? Let’s ask some scientists!
Researchers did a study on a group that involved 500 couples from around world timing themselves having sex over a four-week period – using a stopwatch. Participants pressed “start” at penetration and “stop” at the climax. Sounds like an iron-clad experiment to me!
The average time for each couple (that is, averaged across all the times they had sex) ranged from 33 seconds to 44 minutes. So basically, there’s a man who hadn’t had sex in a decade and another man who just had sex five minutes prior to the study and was also drunk and high.
After gathering all the data from the 500 participants, the scientists ultimately concluded that the average (median, technically) across all couples, was 5.4 minutes.
Sounds about right. For him at least. Thank you science for clearing that one up!
