High stress is nearly synonymous with day-to-day life, but it is not inevitable. While many believe in the ancient practice of acupuncture to quell their angst, science has yet to justify its biological effectiveness; that is until now. “We’re starting to understand what’s going on at the molecular level that helps explain acupuncture’s benefit,” says Ladland Eshkevari, the lead author of a recent study published in the Journal of Endocrinology. The Study tested groups of rats over a ten day period; a no-stress, no-acupuncture control group, and a group exposed to daily stress and acupuncture therapy. As a result, the blood hormone and peptide levels secreted during stress response declined dramatically. More than an ancient art, acupuncture is a science to be taken seriously.
