Why Killer Heels Are Called “Killer Heels”

If you are running around paying for pedicures and trying out pharmaceutical supplies to treat or cover up those corns and calluses, don’t. Those should be the least of your worries. Unfortunately, sexy stilettos are called “killer heels” for several reasons that should not be ignored. Every time you look to slay in “hot” high heels, you are risking gradual major damage to most parts of your body. The next time you hear yourself or a girlfriend saying one of these lines during a night out bless them with this information.
“Oh my gosh, my feet are killing me!”
The higher the heel, the more mass is shifted to the balls of your feet. This causes abruption to the transitioning movement from your heel to toes. Michael Liebow, a podiatrist featured on The Washington Post, stated, “Humans are meant to walk heel-to-toe, with the leg at about a 90-degree angle to the foot and the ankle joint employing a 60-degree range of motion during normal daily activities.” He explained that high heels alter the position and the function of the foot.
Have you ever noticed that weird feeling or pain after you kick off your pumps as if you cannot walk properly? Your ankles stiffened up because they were bending forward from wearing heels for a long period of time. You can try fixing it by flexing your feet throughout the day, but over time, walking may end up being a painful experience even in flats. Continuously wearing high heeled shoes restrict circulation to your lower limbs, possibly causing spider veins, dilated blood vessels that spread across your legs, according to Everyday Health.
“My knees are giving up on me!”
Knees absorb all the impact placed from walking all day, but your sexy stilettos put extra pressure on them. Poor babies! This can lead to a common joint disease called osteoarthritis. While your knees are getting a beating, other body parts are too when you are wearing your favorite high heeled shoes. While the center body mass is pushed forward, the hips and spine are getting out of alignment.
“My back hurts…I need to sit down.”
Many of us suffer from lower back pains, especially if we wear heels to work every day. This is because our backs are designed to curve in an S-slope but that slope is compromised when we wear our pumps. If you must wear heels, give your back a break by wearing a heel that is less than two inches high or dressy pointed toe flats.
I’m sure most fashion enthusiasts, such as myself, are probably obsessed with shoes and are not persuaded by this information. The great thing about this season’s trends is that they include rocking fly sneakers, gladiator sandals, and ballet flats, all very stylish footwear you can give a try instead of heels.
